Local Attractions

Coventry and Warwickshire have a wealth of local attractions to inspire the visitor! Whether your taste is for castles, family attractions, Capability Brown landscapes, organic gardening, motoring heritage, mediaeval guildhouses or outdoor art parks, we have something for everyone. This section is dedicated to helping you make the most of your time here!

The University of Warwick is not in Warwick. It is located very close to the city of Coventry (about 15 minutes) and the town of Leamington Spa (20 minutes).

Located in the centre of England, the University has easy access to Birmingham and London. Birmingham, the UK's official second city, is 25 minutes by train from Coventry. Aside from the shopping attractions of the Bullring, there is also the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), and the National Indoor Arena. Birmingham is also the home of Cadbury's chocolate! London is only an hour and a half away by train from Coventry and Leamington.

The University benefits from its diverse surroundings. Students here have a constant choice. There is the metropolitan buzz of close proximity to several of Britain's major cities. It is also in an area rich with history, with remnants of the past still very prominent in the landscape. Very 'English' towns and countryside fill the region and attract a lot of tourists. The Mediaeval Warwick Castle dominates the centre of the historic town of Warwick. If you look really hard, you can spot the University from the top of the castle tower! On the University's doorstep, Kenilworth has its own story to tell and castle to show.

Most famous is Stratford-upon-Avon, which is around 30 minutes from the University. This is the birth place of William Shakespeare, and now home to the Royal Shakespeare Company. The University works closely with the RSC in a unique partnership. Within about an hour of the University is the Cotswolds, some of Britain's most beautiful countryside. Alternatively, whether you’re visiting one of the many historic buildings, colleges or museums, going out for a drink or a meal, taking in a show or shopping till you drop, Oxford has it all!
